orange skin is sexy

three weeks to spring break. for most people, this is the cruch time. its the time of the year when people remember their new year's resolution to get back in shape and realize that all that remains of last summer's tan is a faint line...if theres one at all. so, people hit the gym to work off those holiday pounds and crawl into those bacertia infested tanning beds to bronzify their skin. why? to look good in a bikini...or swim trunks...whichever, all for spring break. hey, i'm all about working out...Lord knows this country needs it. but why is there a need to be tan in february?

lately, people have been dishing out about $35 a session to lay in a sweaty, hot, gross coffin for fifteen minutes. what is this world coming to? you know, back in the day, porcelien skin was seen as gorgeous. of course, that was an indication that they were rich enough not to have to work outside in the sun all day. the times have changed, though, and now we all must acquire that perfect bronze glow year round. i personally cannot convince myself that it is worth $35 to lay in a place so disgusting...which will probably end in some kind of skin cancer anyway. so maybe thats a little bit of a paranoid statement. but really, i'd rather just be pale when i venture out that first day on spring break and allow the sun to do its magic...through an spf 30, of course.

the whole reason why i'm bringing this up, besides the fact that spring break is so close, is that i'm amazed at what girls do to achieve a tan. tanning beds are one thing. self tanning lotions, thats another. its a lot safer than a tanning bed, which is a definate plus, but the results, i promise, are nothing close to natural. i think i have seen at least three oranger than orange girls walking around campus. the smudges around their jawbone from where they couldn't see where they needed to rub it in still, streaks on the arms...i'm sure their oblivious to how it really looks.

one of these girls is in a class with me. the whole time i thought the lighting of the room and my eyes were playing tricks on me. it looked as if she had nothing in her diet except for sweet potatoes, carrots, and maybe a few glasses of sunny delight. if the whole motive of getting in shape and being tan is to look attractive...does that really achieve it? guys, honestly, is orange skin a must have in what you look for in a girl? if it is, maybe thats the answer i've been looking for.

So True! This is one of the best commentaries I've ever read, and every year I say this very thing to all of my female friends who are relentlessly going to tanning beds, but they always disagree. I say go natural, use the real sun :)

(I know this post is old, but I just had to comment)
