did someone yell "fire"?

yesterday was an entertaining day. well, after i was done with all of my classes, of course. i got my second english paper back...a little disappointed because i was expecting better. don't get me wrong, i got a decent grade...just didn't get what i wanted. so anyway, tried to get my chem homework outta the way, which i was sucessful at. then i decided that i would go carve my pumpkin.

i went home this past weekend and purchased a pumpkin that was about five inches tall. he's quite small. but he still qualifies as a pumpkin...he's not one of those short squatty ones that are the size of your palm. anyway, so i spent about an hour gouging out his insides. i was using a huge serving spoon when all i really needed was a little kitchen one so it was hard to get all the gooey ooey strings out. i figured out my design and then transformed him into a masterpiece...a lovely bulldog face. of course, it was in honor of uga vi, but most people just saw that it was a dog. oh well. so i saved the seeds so i could roast them for later. went to discipleship and then came back and got to work on finding ingrediants for my pumpkin seeds. all i needed was veggie oil and salt...sucess, somehow managed to find both. after the oven preheated to 300, stuck them in and went back to the room to watch some csi. about three minutes later, the piercing sound of the fire alarm resounds in the peaceful halls of myers.

oh crap.

that was all i had to think before i jumped off the futon and ran to the kitchen. okay, so maybe if there was a fire, that would have been a disaster...but there wasn't. i quickly peeked into the oven and no smoke was coming out and the seeds weren't burnt. even so, i turned the oven off and ran downstairs with the mob. it wasn't a drill either. fire trucks were arriving and the RAs made us get off the sidewalks and move out into the quad. so of course, the entire time i'm thinking that it still might be me. we waited outside for about 30 minutes before they let us back in. rumor has it that someone just pulled the fire alarm. if someone was gonna do that, why wouldn't they just pull it in the middle of the night? oh well. lucky for us it was only 9:30.

i went back in and started the seeds up again...they were done by 11:30. i've never roasted pumpkin seeds before, but i didn't do too bad of a job. i think i used a little too much salt.
