fall conference

i spent the past weekend in the mountains of north carolina. a weekend enjoying God's beautiful creation and the fellowship of my fellow ruf-ers...it was amazing.

first off, the car i rode up in left around 4:30 and its about a two to three hour drive. however, we had a good hour and a half or so more bonding time because we ended up going the wrong direction. its complicated, but we took the back roads and thought we were supposed to be heading toward greenville because that was one way to go, but we basically back tracked and went the complete wrong direction. we actually drove in a giant circle and ended up at the same spot we started from 30 minutes before. then andrew's tail lights went out (which had happened a few nights before, too). he couldn't see the speedometer on the dashboard and had to turn on his emergency lights so we wouldn't get pulled over. oh the drama. anyway, we finally arrived just as the first meeting was starting up at 9 pm.

our speaker taught from the psalms...sporadic ones that addressed how God has kingship over us, that we are a people of confession, and how we are a people of redemption. it really brought things to my attention.

friday night we had s'mores and we had free time on saturday from 1-6 pm. i basically spent the day tossing the frisbee around, watching the uga guys beat the teamed-up clemson-usc guys at flag football, went blobbing and down the waterslide, and basked in the sunshine on the dock. i really needed a day like that. it took forever to get a chance to go off the blob. the first time i went, i launched and did a little instinctive twist in the air. the lifeguard said that was the most graceful blob she'd ever seen. apparently, i do everything daintily. i don't know if that’s a good thing or not. at camp everyone said i couldn't go off the rope swing non-daintily...i tried and flailed my arms as i went off. they said it was a dainty flail. its the same thing when i play frisbee or pole vault. oh well. anyway, the second time wasn't as nice as smooth as the first. i turned on my side wrong and smacked my thigh on the water really hard. it was really red for awhile and i thought it was going to bruise (how sweetly intimidating would that have been for flag football on thursday!?) but it faded.

saturday night was a blast. we had a live bluegrass band come in for a hoedown. of course, no one has any real idea of how you're supposed to dance to bluegrass, so it was all improve and the classic stomping and clapping hands and such. it was funny. we were the only school really into it, though. an hour into it, the 50 people or so that were left were almost all uga people. to the band's delight, we demanded an encore performance at the end of the night. they were so excited.

so thats the weekend in a nutshell. after our sunday worship service, we left for athens. thankfully, it only took us about three hours to get back. good times had by all.

Btw, you can draw really well...impressive.
Well have a good week, and I'll throw a prayer your way.

Was anyone at the hoedown blowin' into an empty jug? It's not a real hoedown if there's no jug.
