the grade report:
bdddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd....
and now, announcing my final averages:
- geology: a
- english: a
- political science: a
- drawing: a
- history of the built environment: a
i can't believe it. i did it!! a 4.0 for the semester! by the hair on my chinny chin chin did i pull off an "a" in poli sci and history. i went into both of those exams with an 89 in the class. drawing is a whole different story...seeing as its so subjective and he had me sitting at a b+ at midterm. i had no clue what i'd end up with. that feels so much better than that horseshoe that tainted my gpa last semester. but lets not talk about it.
now that grades are secured, it finally feels like i'm done. no more worries about whether or not i've finished all my homework...its over and i'm fully aware that summer is here.
we spent two days basking in the gorgeous sunshine and skiing over water that was as smooth as glass. it was perfect. i even got to wakeboard again...i say that because we don't own one, but someone brought one up. anyway, yesterday morning becca and i headed out to shop for things we need for camp. i was dropping money like it was hot...left and right. well, i hadn't shopped in awhile, so i got a few things i had been needing as well. oh, i got a haircut. so far, i'm digging it.
thats pretty much what life has been like for the past few days. this afternoon my best friend's (anna) sister is getting married...so i get to get all dressed up later.
i'm still trying to decide what i'm going to do about this blog over the summer. i know i'm hardly going to have any time to write, even though i'll have tons to write, as well as pictures to post. well, if you'd like to write me, my mailing address is on my facebook profile. if you don't have my facebook profile, then don't worry about it.

the freshman year has ended.
i went to my last exam this morning...my last class really. we turned in our final drawings and had to talk about them in front of the class. i've posted mine below...as a work in progress. i thought it would be interesting to see it come together in stages, although i didn't take pictures at as many intervals as i would ideally.
right now, i'm waiting for my mom to pick me up to take me to the lake. a few days in the sunshine....its finally SUMMER!!! i leave a week from today for my camp counselor job out in texas! i'm still not sure how often i'll have time to post things. perhaps i'll make a blog devoted to my summer experience. well, my mom will be mad if i'm not all packed before she arrives.

happy and crappy xxv
- some warm weather (finally!)
- laying out in the sun
- finishing classes
- dancing downtown until 2 am
- picnics in the botanical gardens
- lunches with the fam
this week's crappy...nay for:
- having to study
- hard exams
- taking my room apart
- the sad ugliness of my bare walls
- paint chipping off the wall that i have to pay for
- being a slacker and not starting my drawing until late
- watching everyone else finish exams while i still have two more things to do

focus...focus...
for one, all i did friday was pack. my parents and becca came up and we ate downtown, then wandered around target looking for reflective objects (for my drawing, since everying was going home and i had nothing left to draw) which we bought and i will return promptly after turning in my drawing. i'm just borrowing. of course, friday i considered as my day off from school. later megan and i met colette and anna for dinner at east campus, then we headed back to our bare and lifeless room (except for the few pictures if have above my bed) to watch lemony snickets: a series of unfortunate events, which, i must say, was rather unfortunate. the movie was odd, but good. i just feel awful hating jim carrey.
anyway, after the movie, we suddenly decided to go downtown to krush girls. its a dj that plays a bunch of 80s music and other things. considering it was an exam weekend, the place was packed. it was anna's first time downtown (which is crazy!) and she had a blast! we danced and were sweaty (which doesn't really feel nice when you're dressed up). good times. we were out until about 2:30 am and then we crashed.
today, i was determined to get something done. set up my drawing...looked at it for awhile. then decided to get some studying done on the quad. well, studying isn't exactly what happens when you mix sunshine, swimsuits, and four girls who consistantly want to talk. needless to say, i hardly got anything done before i closed the book and relaxed in the sun.
the obvious problem with this is that i'm not getting what i need to get done done. how am i going to attain these a's if i don't put any effort into it? i really just feel like giving up...but that would be a waste of the whole semester. anyway, what i need to do is focus...focus...focus...

update from the battle front
i'm pretty sure i've secured my a's in the finals i've finished already. however, the exam left is the one i need to make a 93 on in order to get an a. not too excited about that because that means i have to actually study, and study hard. this is the class where the professor expects us to read 160 pages of an encyclopedia type book three times over.
as for the drawing, i have no idea still what i want to draw. its driving me crazy. hopefully my professor won't be stupid and give me a "b" in that class because that would make me crazy mad.
i've spent most of the evening trying to gather my things together in the room so i can pack easily tomorrow. yes, its time to move the majority of my junk out of this dorm. i'm planning on keeping my pictures up on the wall because i don't think i could bear living in a white-walled prison while i study all weekend. my parents are coming up tomorrow to take stuff home...the bonus is that they're taking me out to lunch!! becca is done, so shes coming up as well.
boring post, i know, but what can you expect when all i've done all day is written my hand into a state of numbness and organized?

ode to the roomie
and now, without further ado, i give you "ode to the roomie":
we didn’t know eachother at all;
the room assignments came and i gave you a call.
we decided to meet up at the mall
and i remember thinking you were really tall.
you moved in early into the room
and realized it was the size of a tomb.
we were upset about our unfortunate doom,
but with a few bright colors, the space bloomed.
we were early to bed, early to rise;
well, at least i was always up at sunrise.
in the future, my schedule I’ll revise
because sleeping in late now seems wise.
one of the first few weeks you had a hot date
with a guy who turned out to be not so great.
every time he im’s you, you get irate;
to the “he he’s” and smilies, you just can’t relate.
from down the hall, amy often comes...
she doesn't walk, she usually runs.
off to eat, she us often summons
we eat strawberries that i pick, but not lemons.
you have a blue bug that you let me drive--
i had wanted one since i was, like, five.
to gavin degraw, we like to jive
until to our destination, we arrive.
for some stupid reason on sunday night,
no dining halls serve dinner…that’s not right.
so we venture out in the bug to get a bite
to eat at some restaurant, so that’s alright.
you like diet coke, i like caprisun,
we like chocolate covered grapes that have been in the sun.
wednesday nights are always fun
because we watch alias, which is my number one.
many of your clothes, people like to borrow
promising that they'll return them tomorrow
maybe someday down the hall you'll tiptoe
to get them back from storage, like that, presto!
back in december we won the contest
to see who could decorate their door best.
the judges were obviously quite impressed
and to us, a game we have yet to play, was bequest.
some people claim that your hair has turned red
and theres rumors to why that has been said.
conversations on that topic have been widespread,
because of some trash that had earlier been shed.
we went camping one weekend, you came tardy
but when we got got back, you still smelled campfirey.
although the weather that weekend was crappy
i promise we'll get out there some time and waterski.
our first year of college, we'll soon finish
and we won't see each other as muchish.
you might grow out of saying words like "mellow mush"
but around me, it will always be normalish.
i know i'm not a very good rhymer
and some of my words could be finer
but i figured this would serve as a nice reminder
that potluck is a great friend finder.
i know, that was moving. *sniff* can someone find me a tissue?

debunking the myths and verifying the truths...
i figured that, since the title of my blog is "college life," i should offer my oh-so-wise opinions on what this college business is all about....from the perspective of a first-year student at uga.
the myths:
- freshmen gain 15 lbs when they get to college: you're not guaranteed to gain those freshmen 15...as long as you work out and play frisbee
- everyone has to drink in college to have fun: getting drunk does not equal fun
- if you aren't in a sorority/fraternity, it will be harder to make friends: you don't have to go greek to get friends
- the number of people at large colleges is overwhelming and isolates you: you always run into people you know when walking to class...even on a big campus
- lofts are a pain: lofted beds aren't as bad as they seem (i guarantee, you won't roll off)
- once you're in college, you'll wear pjs to class all the time: i have rarely seen someone in class in their pjs
- staying up late is part of college life: staying up past 12 is overrated
- buy every text the syllabus "requires": if the textbook has the professor's name on the spine, they're pretty much just making money off you. they teach straight from it in lectures. ask someone who took the class if its really necessary.
- all professors use the curve: don't count on it
the truths:
- for every hour of class you have, you have to study three hours out of class: in college...you actually have to study. its a nice idea, but not very likely.
- you can't just print from the library. you need a printer
- college drains your bank account: a job would be a nice thing to have
- do whatever it takes to sell your books back: they don't do any good on the shelves collecting dust...plus you get some cash
- its good to get a random roommate: but going potluck is a win or lose situation
- there are no quiet hours: no matter how hard your RA may or may not try, people will be as loud as they want
- you can skip class: sure, but i strongly discourage it
- having easy-to-do hair is a must: you will not want to do your hair in the morning
- procrastination is not good: it always kicks you in the butt
- large lecture classes aren't so bad: all you have to do is show up and take notes...and you can doze if you so wish
- dorm rooms don't clean themselves: once its outta control, its hard to organize again
- there is nothing to do at home: going home every weekend is a bad idea...its a time to get to know people and make new friends
- people change: both for the good and the bad
