weather or not

sometimes you simply can't plan ahead.

i'm a pretty spontaneous person. especially when it comes to making plans for big events, like trips. i suppose it comes from traveling with my family on standby...you always have to be flexible because you just might not get to go on. sure, there may be five seats on that airplane that is about to depart...that plane you've been sitting in the airport waiting for eight hours on. but five isn't six, and six is the number of seats we needed to get our whole family on. even once we got to our destination, we always had a make-it-up-as-you-go mentality. i find that its much more relaxing than trying to follow a strict agenda.

well, my birthday is coming up this weekend. contrary to my usual tendencies, i began brainstorming for my birthday weekend about three months or so ago.

plan: waterskiing all weekend with becca and friends.

what could be better than some water, sun, and friends on your birthday? as april approached, plans became more concrete. dodged the dad-has-work problem saturday by opting to camp saturday night and then ski all day sunday. plans were set, invitations extended...all we had to do then was wait for the 10-day forecast to pop up on weather.com.

forecast april 14: 40% chance of rain, 76 degrees both saturday and sunday....not looking so good.
forecast april 16: 30% chance of thunderstorms saturday, 78 degrees. 20% showers sunday...looking a little worse.
forecast april 18: 20% chance of showers saturday, partly cloudy sunday, 76 degrees...perfect! we can do that!
forecast april 20: 30% chance of showers saturday, 61 degrees. sunny sunday, 59 degrees...hold up. thanks for taking away the rain...but what happened to the warm weather??

apparently theres a cold front moving in on friday. for the past week, the weather man has been toying with my emotions. he's had me checking the stupid weather every time i get onto my computer...which, i must say, is a lot. i guess i'm hoping there will be some kind of miracle, that the weather will suddenly and miraculously change into a cloudless heat wave. but when it comes down to it, i just can't make the weather do what i want (and if i could, the cold/heat combo would prolly end up causing a tornado, so its a good thing i'm not in charge of it). its just one of those things you can't control. i'll be honest. i'm a little upset. one of the few times i make plans way before the fact, it decides to rain on my birthday parade. well, not really rain anymore, but be stinking cold.

sometimes you can't plan ahead. but once plans are set, theres no backing down. i may be spontaneous, but i'm also stubborn. i've been sitting on standby watching the weather...but at this point i don't care if i don't have a ticket. we're going on this trip, darn it...rain, snow, or (definitely) shine. becca and i decided that it won't be too cold to camp at least...and for those daring enough to ski without a wet suit, it won't be too cold to waterski, either.
