portfolio

this isn't all of my drawings...but almost. we had to turn in our portfolios yesterday in drawing, so i figured i'd post them. taking pictures of them is a lot easier than scanning them and trying to photoshop the pieces together. anyway, this was my first class ever in drawing...so they're not that great. oh well. enjoy.

one of my first in-class still lifes...pretty crappy if i do say so myself.

spring fever

i'm pretty sure i'm the one to blame for the cold/crappy weather for the past week. yes, today was a rather nice day, but referring back to last weekend and looking at the forecast for next week, i'd say the weathers been rough.

why do i point the finger at myself? well, last week i took too much advantage of the 80 degree weather. every day after i got out of my classes (which end around noon), i was out on the quad soaking up some sun...just me, the ipod, and my big t-shirt quilt (and, of course, the occasional company of friends). anyway, thats pretty much what i did all afternoon, every afternoon. of course, i could have done some reading (for hw, not joy), but i took the excuse that the light bouncing off the white pages of my book hurt my eyes. obviously, i didn't get any homework done last week. you're still prolly trying to figure out what i have to do with the weather. well, i have a confession to make. i actually complained about it being so nice. i know...its terrible. i have no idea what was going through my mind when those cruel words escaped from my lips.

apparently, the warm weather was giving me what you'd call "spring fever." i had all the symptoms: laziness, obsessive compulsiveness to be in the sunshine, stress free, mind on summertime, ignoring all homework. yes, its obvious thats what i had/have. for some awful reason, i suddenly became conscious of my state of bliss. the remedy? get a cold front and dark rain clouds. somehow thats what i prescribed myself unconsciously...because somehow thats what happened. instead of being responsible and admitting that i'm a procrastinator, i claimed that the beautiful weather was at fault. i said it was torturous...that it was distracting me from my studies. boy was i wrong. i'm always distracted from my studies.

i think the sun was offended by my rudeness and is now sulking behind its black curtain and crying. occasionally, he peeks his face, but only enough to let me know that he's somewhere back there. maybe he wants an apology.

dearest sunshine,
i'm sorry for what i said. i did you wrong and i didn't really mean it. i miss you deeply. please come back to me...its not warm when you're away.
forever yours,
jeannine

jimmy rocks my world

last night was the concert i've been looking forward to for the past two months.

a not-so-well-known band called the format opened. however, they are very well-known by me and becca, so we sang along...with the few people who knew their songs. they sounded really good live. taking back sunday took the stage next. i'm not familiar with their music at all, and i didn't really appreciate their screaminess. as i've said before, i'm not a fan of bands screaming. it seemed like they took forever...maybe because of my anticipation of jimmy eat world. finally, jimmy came on stage, and the whole crowd roared. they. were. awesome. they played a lot of songs from their new cd, as well as a few from the old school stuff. they also played some of my favorites from bleed american, like "a praise chorus" and "sweetness".

their stage set up was really cool, too...they had a whole bunch of tv sets up there all flickering different things. we were all singing as loud as possible and it was fabulous. i took a few pics of the stage...since thats as close i could zoom. too bad i don't know how to post videos, cuz i recorded the chorus of "sweetness".

i know i've been slacking on actually posting something more entertaining than summaries of my life experiences and pictures....but then again, i did warn that i'd be posting a lot of pictures.

the format...a quite wonderful band that opened the concert

strawberry picking

for our last discipleship meeting this afternoon, we picked strawberries! nice, big, red, ripe strawberries! after dinner, we sliced them up and had strawberry shortcake...the perfect summer desert...event though it was cold outside today. anyway, i've posted the pictures from our excursion.

the strawberry picking fiesta begins!

the birthday bash

yes, we went camping this past weekend for my birthday...despite the cold weather. however, we didn't get to waterski. that was prolly a smart move...considering it was only 53 degrees and windy all day.

becca and the tech girls didn't get here to pick us up until about 3:30 saturday afternoon. becca claimed that her driving time was over, and gave me the wheel to the suburban. well, the back was packed with camping equipment, sleeping bags, pillows, and duffle bags for seven girls and it was pretty much impossible to see out the back window. starting off, i had no idea how to get to the interstate...in a nutshell, we basically drove an hour and a half loop in the wrong direction just to pass the exit we would have passed if we went the right way. a little frustrating, but oh well. we didn't get there until 7 (and we should have gotten there at 5:30).

christina was a pro at setting up her ten (wo)man tent that she brought, so it took us no time to set up before it got dark. while a few of us set up the tent (and i gathered firewood), the others made a run to get little ceasar's pizza and breakfast food. we about devoured the pizzas in five minutes. it was starting to get pretty cold, so we tried to start a fire.

its crazy how hard it is to start a fire. we had all those leaves and wood and they just wouldn't catch on fire. i find it odd that dry wood and leaves is so hard to intentionally set on fire, but those wildfires out in california can spread so fast through lush green forests. the people on the other campsite had a bonfire going with all the lighter fluid they had. but us? nope...we were doing it au natural...using only matches and a lighter. in the words of carina..."the way the indians do it". finally, we got the thing going...with a little aid from the torn up carboard from the pizza boxes. of course, camping just isn't camping without s'mores...which we had.

our entire tent was filled with blankets and sleeping bags to keep warm for the night. i also wore about five layers, which helped me stay warm. however, most of the girls about froze to death. the combonation of high winds and 35 degree weather is no match for thin tent walls and the body heat of 9 girls. the weather definately won.

even though we didn't get any waterskiing in, we still had fun! the next morning we woke up and i immediately began collecting firewood to get warm again. i spent about fifteen minutes trying to direct megan and jamie to the campsite, since they couln't make it for the camping part. we played catch phrase and my parents eventually showed up with lunch and goodies. we did our best to light the candles on the cake before the wind blew them out...as you can see in the pictures. i finally got a desk lamp to replace the one thats been burnt out on my desk for the past three months. megan and amy got me an awesome arm strap thing for my ipod...so now i don't have to carry it when i workout!

i'm most excited about my new DIGITAL CAMERA...which is something i've been wanting for the past three years! beware: there will be lots and lots of pictures on this blog now!

thanks to everyone who made my birthday so wonderful...and sticking around even though the weather was pretty rough! i love you all so much!
