school shooting foiled

i remember coming home from school seven years ago, turning on the tv, and watching the aerial view video clips of columbine high school. i remember the feeling of surrealness...much like september 11th.

well, apparently five boys in kansas had full intentions of going through with another "columbine" yesterday, copying the previous terrorist attack right down to the date and black trenchcoats.

peers who recall hearing some of the boys referring to columbine simply brushed it off as joking, which seems like a common theme in all of these cases. i'd probably give them the benefit of the doubt and do the same.

but the reason why we aren't turning on our tvs to another high school massacre is that they were caught just hours before the attack would be carried out. it wasn't until the night before that one of the boys got excited enough about the plot to divulge information like "people should wear bullet proof vests and flak jackets" to a woman in north carolina, who he was chatting with on myspace.

the next morning, one of the students was arrested at school and the four others were arrested in commute. guns, knives, notes about annihilation, plans to cut off school security cameras, etc. were all found. that makes me sick.

they had been planning this since the beginning of the school year...obviously this is premeditated. they had fully intended to do this and would have if they weren't caught by authorities. however, only one is 18 and legally an adult. if the others get off for being minors, then the court system is extremely flawed

the parents/guardians should be held responsible and tried as well as the criminals in this situation, for the ones who are under 18.
